Zamalek’s Riveiro contact disclosed

KickOff has been informed about the details relating to the contact made by Egyptian giants Zamalek to Jose Riveiro in recent weeks.

Orlando Pirates have already confirmed that Riveiro will leave the club upon the expiry of his three-year deal.

This has prompted widespread talk about where he will move to next, and Zamalek have been amongst those that have made contact with the Spaniard.

There has also been mention of the Middle East market.

Riveiro has done a splendid job at Pirates, winning five trophies in three years and has his sixth in sight on Saturday in the Nedbank Cup.

Of note is that he guided Bucs to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, putting his name on the North African clubs’ radar.

Information reaching this website is that while no deal will happen now with Ayman El Ramadi already in the job on an interim basis, Zamalek did have a Zoom meeting with Riveiro.

It is said beyond what they have seen on Riveiro’s work, they also established that he was more than affordable to them.

Zamalek can stretch their budget up to figures ranging from USD60 000 – USD90 000 (approx. R1,1 million – R1,6 million) per month at best when head-hunting a head coach, which is way above what Riveiro earns at Pirates.

Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro was in that salary bracket during his time at the club.

A salary of USD50 000 (approx. R904 000) is standard for the club, who are the biggest rivals of Al Ahly.

Besides Riveiro, Zamalek also spoke to several other coaches, but Pitso Mosimane was never considered.

Based on what then happens with El Ramadi until the end of the season, Riveiro remains amongst the top five to be considered.

El Ramadi holds a UEFA Pro Licence.
