Thulani Hlatshwayo highly motivated ahead of MTN8 clash with Orlando Pirates

The PSL runners-up face off against the Bucs, who ended last season in seventh, in the first hurdle towards success in the first major trophy on offer for the season, with the Clever Boys taking part in the competition for the fifth time in its nine-year history.

Wits play another Soweto giant in Kaizer Chiefs in their first League match of the campaign on Tuesday, which is followed by their cup clash against the Sea Robbers, yet ‘Tyson’ says his side are up for the challenge.

“We are looking forward to the MTN8 and our clash against Orlando Pirates,” he is quoted as saying on his club’s official website. “I have noticed that if you do well in the MTN8 you stand a great chance to do well in the Absa Premiership, so we have extra motivation to do well.”

Last season’s winners Ajax Cape Town could not convert their cup victory into solid league form as they ended the season in tenth, yet previous winners Amakhosi did lift the League title after their 2014 MTN8 silverware.

Chiefs travel to Cape Town City for their MTN8 quarter-final at Cape Town Stadium on Friday night, with Wits and Pirates squaring off at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday evening.
