MTN 8 Quarter-final: Platinum Stars vs Chippa United

The visitors were in control throughout the first 45 and took the lead early as Rhulani Manzini profited from some dreadful defending to break the deadlock at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

In the second half Menzi Masuku entered the field as a substitute and made no mistake when presented with a chance to double the advantage.

Terribly lax passing at the back from Stars allowed Manzini to sneak in and touch the ball past Mbongeni Mzimela before passing into an empty net for the opener in the ninth minute.

The goal allowed the visitors to relax and they developed a very comfortable rhythm although clear cut chances were not created with regularity.

There were opportunities though with Buyani Sali afforded too much space outside the box but his shot was pulled wide.

Sipho Senne replaced Botes with ten minutes to go until the break and the substitute started brightly by forcing Dlamini to get down an intercept a low cross which was Dikwena's best chance up until that point.

At the other end it was the resumption of normal service as Chippa regained control with neat play on the edge of the area seeing the ball come to Manzini who hit a tame shot straight down the throat of Mzimela.

Dikwena came out of the break looking a little brighter but it wasn't long until Chippa re-established themselves.

Manzini almost got his second as he glanced Mark van Heerden's delivery just wide of the post with the keeper rooted to the spot.

At the other end the home side had a rare opportunity but Ndumiso Mabena could do no more than scuff his effort wide.

There were chances aplenty as the game moved towards the final 15 minutes with Mbenyane driving his shot against the post after wonderful touches in the area.

Just before the 80th minute Chippa got a deserved second as Thembinkosi Lorch played a peach of a ball into the area and Masuku slammed home from close range.

The Chilli Boys almost added further gloss to the scoreline as Mbulelo Wambi launched a shot from distance that took a deflection and went wide.
