Mkhwanazi: There's only internal pressure at Bidvest Wits

Wits will battle Ajax Cape Town in the MTN8 semi-finals on Saturday, having last claimed silverware in 2010 when they lifted the Nedbank Cup under current Ajax coach Roger de Sa.

The Clever Boys also reached the 2014 Nedbank Cup Final, but went down 3-1 to Orlando Pirates.

And with the club richly investing in players over the past two seasons, much is expected from Gavin Hunt’s side.

However, Mkhwanazi says: “I don’t think there’s any pressure in terms of winning whatever [silverware] that has to be won.

“It’s [the desire] that has to come from the players and the [technical team] to help the club win silverware because, really, it’s been long since Wits have won cupsm,” says the former University of Pretoria captain.

The Bloemfontein-born centre-back insists Wits' high-profile signings has brought welcome attention to the ambitious outfit.

“By the club bringing in good, experienced players, people might think that it’s pressure on its own but I think it’s something that’s really cool for the club to be able to attract supporters, and bring them closer to the club.

“Winning will come as a bonus but then it’s something that has to be done as players, you know, you’ll never play football and never [want to] win anything. You need to know that when you retire you would have won a whole lot of things with great players on your side,” adds the 25-year-old.
