Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela targets quick cup response

Chiefs, who went down 2-1 to the Clever Boys on Tuesday night, face a second successive away trip when they travel to The Mother City for a clash against the PSL newbies, who have started their campaign off with a win over Polokwane City.

Having placed himself back in the Amakhosi fans’ firing line, Komphela has called on the players to direct their anger towards their next clash against City in order to quickly sweep their first result under the carpet.

“Beginning of the season is very difficult because you don’t know much about your opponents. The same with Bidvest Wits, even though you know a few individuals,” said Komphela.

“We are going to Cape Town to face a Cape Town City that we know as Black Aces that have made a lot of changes, but we’ll go in there. My only concern is to play our game and impose our game plan, then go from there.

“The beauty of having two matches in a week is that we can bounce back whilst we’re still angry, but we have to [win] because if not, then it knocks our confidence.”

Komphela also sees this season’s MTN8 as an opportunity to make up for last season’s woeful end to successive cup competitions, including the Telkom Knockout.

“It’s an opportunity to win a trophy; an opportunity to for us to have silverware. Last season we went to final and got nothing twice, so this is an opportunity,” he concluded.
