Following Friday night’s meek MTN8 exit at the hands of Cape Town City, Chiefs have now gone six competitive matches without tasting victory stretching back to the tail-end of last season when they beat now-relegated University of Pretoria.
The Chiefs skipper admitted after the City defeat that for some reason the team is not taking their form in training onto the pitch during matches, but said it was through no fault of the coach.
“As players we are trying everything we can,” Khune said in trying to pinpoint what is going wrong.
“The coach is planning well, he’s training us well, he’s preparing us well, we just can’t score goals, I think thats where the problem is.
“We work a lot at training on finishing and we do take those chances at training. In the friendly matches we play well and score a great number of goals but when it comes to competitive matches I don’t know what’s happening.
“We just have to go back to the drawing board and work hard and improve on our finishing because that’s what has let us down.
“If you recall very well the last game [against Bidvest Wits], the only goal we scored was from [Lorenzo] Gordinho and that’s a central defender but that’s what we expect from everyone at Kaizer Chiefs. Everyone that wears the Kaizer Chiefs jersey must be able to help the team, whether scoring or creating or defending.
“But we will work on our finishing because that’s where we are lacking at the moment. But we don’t have any problems with anyone, we’re a very happy camp.”
Chiefs’ next assignment is an Absa Premiership match at home to Platinum Stars on Wednesday, September 14.
