Lebese is now on three goals for the tournament, with Bidvest Wits duo Sibusiso Vilakazi and Henrico Botes – both on two goals – the other main contenders as they prepare to face Ajax Cape Town in the other semi-final on Sunday.
“Personally I’d like to compete for top goalscorer but I think the team comes first, winning the trophy comes first and then if it comes and I’m the leading scorer then I’ll be happy, but if not I won’t be mad at myself,” Lebese said after the match at FNB Stadium.
“I’m happy [to be scoring goals]. I think I started the season the way I wanted to. It’s just for me to be consistent, get more goals and improve my game.”
Lebese was delighted to score the all-important goal in the second leg against a Celtic side who put up a brave fight.
“We knew today was going to be a difficult game nevermind the away-goal but we just wanted to be in the Final, it didn’t matter how it came, that’s what we told ourselves, and I’m happy to have contributed and got the important goal today,” he added.

Lebese explained the finish for his goal, and what went through his mind after it looked like the chance might have been lost.
“Ja it was a lose ball [after the ball got away from me a bit], the defender tried to get the ball but he was off balance, so I saw him off balance and the ball was moving away from him so I just took a shot and fortunately it went into the back of the net,” he concluded.
