Cale’s domestic trophy haul will be complete this weekend if Ajax Cape Town win the MTN8 at the expense of Kaizer Chiefs. The two sides will square off for R8-million at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday at 15h00.
The 32-year-old is the only player still with Ajax who played in their last MTN8 Final appearance when they were demolished 6-0 by Golden Arrows in 2009.
“That memory [of losing 6-0 to Arrows in 2009] is still fresh in my mind!” he laughs, despite having lost in four previous top-eight cup finals.
“That day it was bad, it was disaster. I don’t know what went wrong on the day.
“In my career, I’ve played in this cup final four times already, and I lost out on all. To date, it is the only trophy that I have not won in my career. I won everything else.
“But when I look back at those encounters, we’ve always had a talented bunch of kids at Ajax. But this crop has the edge. There is something special about them, they want to play, they can play and they always want to win.
“So I do not think that I will finish my career without winning the MTN8. I’m optimistic tomorrow is the day.”
Cale won his other trophies whilst playing for Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United.
