Eric Tinkler delighted with Lehlohonolo Majoro in win over Kaizer Chiefs

Majoro worked his socks off all night but was a left a little isolated as City played more on the counter after Matthew Sim put them 1-0 up early on, a scoreline they managed to hold onto as they knocked Amakhosi out of the cup.

Tinkler, Majoro's former coach at Orlando Pirates, praised the striker even though he rarely threatened Itumeleng Khune on the night.

“Majoro, best I’ve seen him play in a long, long time,” Tinkler said. “His fitness levels, truth be told, he joined us late, they are not where they should be.

“But whenever we looked to get forward we could find Majoro, he could hold it up, he was looking to link up the play and I’m very, very happy with his performance.”

The City coach felt his team could have beaten Chiefs by more than one goal if they had made better decisions on the counter-attack, but was happy with the defence.

“There were a couple of times on the counters we made the wrong decisions, Bongo Jayiya made a wrong decision, Aubrey Ngoma made a wrong decision, but that will come with time,” he added.

“It’s about the guys playing more together and understanding the type of movements I expect from them on that transition, and we’ll see an improvement.

“But I’m very happy and proud of the boys, it makes me very happy going forward to see the type of squad I have, the motivation and determination they have.

“You build this team with a solid defence and I think the whole pre-season we’ve only conceded one goal in 11 games now, so that’s not bad and if we can keep that up we’ll have a decent season.”
