City beat Chiefs 1-0 in the MTN8 quarter-finals last week, having won their league opener 2-0 against Polokwane City on August 23.
Tinkler, however, says there is room for improvement at the newly formed club.
"Our transitional play is something that needs to improve," he told snl24.com/kickoff.
"It wasn't good enough against Chiefs as well. I really felt had we been more clinical in terms of our transition we would have been winning the game fairly comfortably on the transition.
"It's a little bit like Shu-Aib said, did they have more possession? Yes, they did. Did they put crosses into the box? Yes, they did. Did we defend them? Yes, did we clear them? Yes. Did they break our lines? No. Did Shu-Aib have to make a lot of saves? No.
"So all of these things were good it's just that our transitional play wasn't up to the standard I expected and if we can just work on that and get better at it, it bodes well for the rest of the league campaign.
"It's a building process we got to keep working hard," concluded the former Orlando Pirates boss.
