Bidvest Wits Orlando Pirates MTN8 quarter-final report

Oupa Manyisa gave Bucs the lead in the 16th minute via the penalty spot after Thulani Hlatshwayo brought down Tendai Ndoro in the area following a flowing team move.

Wits equalised in the 38th minute when Buhle Mkhwanazi's close-range header was only half-saved by Felipe Ovono before the goalkeeper fell back over the line and failed to keep the ball out.

Ovono was having a shocking game and was given a let-off in the 70th minute when he dropped a corner-kick at Hlatshwayo's feet, but the defender completely missed the tap-in from six yards out.

But Hlatshwayo would not reject a second invitation from the Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper and when he could only parry Thabang Monare's swerving shot in the 75th minute, 'Tyson' gratefully gobbled up the rebound to put the Clever Boys 2-1 up.

Wits midfielder Xola Mlambo rather harshly received a second yellow card for dissent in stoppage time and was sent off, leaving a slightly sour taste in the mouth for Gavin Hunt, but what a result as Wits join Cape Town City and Chippa United in the last four so far.

Bidvest Wits: Josephs, Hlanti, Hlatshwayo, Mkhwanazi, Allie, Monare, Mlambo, Klate, Mhango (Nhlapo 89'), Ngele (Pelembe 57'), Malajila (Rodgers 75')

Orlando Pirates: Ovono, Sikhakhane, Gcaba, Gyimah, Matlaba, Mobara, Makola (Nkosi 81'), Manyisa (c), Rakhale (Kutumela 46'), Norodien (Qalinge 46'), Ndoro
