The former SuperSport United frontman suffered an epileptic fit on the eve of his side’s MTN8 semi-final clash two weeks ago, and was rushed to ICU, before being discharged a few days later.
Urban Warriors’ head coach Roger De Sa says the forward, who was yesterday awarded the Absa Premiership player of the Month award for August, is recovering well.
“The doctors are on top of it and assessing him every day,” De Sa told reporters. “I had a chat with him this morning and said to him, ‘Prince, congrats on the award yesterday. We are going to take it easy until you are ready.’ And he said, ‘Well coach, I am ready.’
“So it’s nice to know that he is keen to bounce back straight away … it was a bit of a scare for all of us, but at least now we know what to do and how to go about it.
"He’s on medication, and it’s not a condition that’s unknown to anybody – it’s something that’s pretty common around the world and top athletes have lived whole their lives with it. So he’s ok with it, we’re ok with it, it’s just a question of getting him back to full fitness now.”
Nxumalo has already returned to light training with the side, yet De Sa emphasised that his return to the first team will not be rushed.
“He’s up for contention on Saturday,” the coach said. “He’s in the squad and will be training tomorrow again, so we’ll see how he’s feeling, and if need be he’ll have a run on Saturday if we feel he’s ready for it.
“But he’s ok – he’s lost a bit of weight, he looks a bit weak, but he’s bouncing back.”
Ajax take on Polokwane City in their next PSL fixture at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night, where a victory will see them leapfrog Mpumalanga Black Aces at the top of the log.
