PSL accused of not playing by the rules

The Football Union of South Africa have accused the Premier Soccer League of not playing by the rules in the matter involving relegated Motsepe Foundation Championship club Leruma United FC.

In 2024 Marumo Gallants FC were ordered by the Premier Soccer League DRC to pay their players CAF Confederations Cup bonuses owed to them from their 2023/2024 Season campaign.

With Lerumo having bought the Mostepe Foundation Championship status of Marumo Gallants, FUSA want the club to inherit all the debts of the previous owners.

Lucky Mohomi, Mahlatse Makudubela, Letsie Koape, Mpho Mvelase, Katlego Otladisa, Ayanda Nkili, Celimpilo Ngema, Thabo Khiba, Ranga Chivaviro, Lesiba Nku and Tshepo Gumede are all suppose to get paid R141 037.77 each.

"FUSA finds it perplexing that the PSL intends to oppose our application to uphold the remaining Leruma FC grant until players' outstanding salaries are settled," FUSA secretary Taelo Motloung tells KickOff.

"Given the National Dispute Resolution Chamber's (NDRC) award instructing the club to pay within 10 days, which they failed to comply with, it's unclear why the PSL would object to enforcing this order.

"The NDRC's decision is binding, and deducting from the grant is a necessary measure to ensure players receive their owed monies.

"With the club relegated, utilizing the remaining grant for this purpose is logical. This approach has precedent, as seen in the case of Polokwane City Rovers, where their grant was withheld until outstanding cases were resolved and players received their due payments, with the club receiving the remaining balance.

"We urge the PSL to reconsider their stance and prioritize settling the players' outstanding salaries."
