'Our football is falling into the wrong hands'

Sipho Ndzuzo, the former secretary general of SAFPU, is concerned about the recurring issues that surface at the end of each season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
He attributes these problems to greedy club owners who prioritize their own interests over the integrity of the game.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that the champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2024/2025 season will not be crowned this weekend due to ongoing legal matters off the field.
"It all goes back to the numerous issues we face here in South Africa. The individuals running our football seem to care more about their own pockets and profits than about the sport itself," Ndzuzo told KickOff.
"For some, football is life; for others, it is merely business. People will go to great lengths to make a profit or to protect their own interests.
"If you are a football player and you entrust your future to someone who only cares about their profits rather than your well-being, then you should know you are in big trouble.
"The lives of those players were put in the hands of someone at Leruma United who was supposed to care for them. But the person in charge doesn't seem to care," he added.
"Clearly, our football is falling into the wrong hands, and the situation is very challenging. The only ones who still possess genuine passion for the game are the fans—those who spend their hard-earned money that could go towards feeding their families to watch these teams play.
"These supporters are the only people left in our football who truly care about the sport."
