Durban City confirm coach's shock exit

Motsepe Foundation Championship winners Durban City have confirmed that they have parted ways with head coach Simo Dladla.

It was a fairytale season for the team formerly known as Maritzburg United, who managed to secure automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership.

Dladla, however, won't be taking charge of the KwaZulu-Natal side after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.

"Durban City Football Club can confirm that following a series of discussions, the Club and Head Coach Simo Dladla have been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract of employment for the Betway Premiership Season,” the club said in a statement.

"As such, Coach Dladla will not be continuing in his role with the Club going forward. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Coach Dladla for his efforts, professionalism and contribution during his time with Durban City FC. His efforts played a key role in the team’s progress and recent successes.

"The Club will now begin the process of identifying a new Head Coach to lead the team into the upcoming season and will provide further updates in due course.
