Climb up signals for Chiefs defender

Thabiso Monyane has planted himself under the radar of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos just four matches into his time at Kaizer Chiefs.

Monyane is not in the latest squad to play Lesotho and Nigeria early September in Bloemfontein but the knock his name has made is already being heard by Broos.

The 25-year-old has put in encouraging shifts at right-back for Chiefs starting all four games in a row to date.

By the time Chiefs play Golden Arrows on Saturday and if he starts that game then he will have matched his longest run of starts in the league from all the years he spent in the first team at Orlando Pirates.

Monyane’s line of starts in the league only went up to five at most at Pirates which happened towards the end of the 2023/24 season.

For now, Broos is watching Monyane with interest.

"That was a guy that was on our list a year ago," says Broos during his announcement of the final Bafana Bafana squad for announcement.

"And he played a friendly with us, I think, but it was more than a year ago.

"But when you see what has happened to him at Pirates, he didn’t play anymore.

"And now he is back at Chiefs.

"And you see little by little … but maybe selecting him for these upcoming games was going to be a little bit too soon.

"I hope that he can confirm in the next weeks what he showed us so far in the four weeks.

"Then again, maybe we can be with him in the qualifying games in October," says Broos.
