Downs star on Ribeiro exit reports: We wish him well...

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido has added his voice to the recent reports linking star Lucas Ribeiro with a move abroad.

The Brazilians are putting in the final preparations for the start of the 25/26 season and will be looking to replicate or even improve their impressive 24/25 league-winning campaign.

They, however, may have to do that without the service of one of the key players in Ribeiro, who is touted for a move away from Choolorkop.

The 27-year-old, who was crowned the PSL Footballer of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, is not in camp with Sundowns ahead of their opening fixtures for the season, according to reports.

"Lucas [Ribeiro] is a very good player, I think each and every one will miss a player like that," Cupido told journalists on Wednesday at the launch of the 25/26 MTN8.

"Even if you go into your workspace, if someone has to leave, you’ll feel it, but for us as Mamelodi Sundowns, if it does happen, we wish him well."

The centre-back, though, is confident that the Brazilians have enough depth to be unaffected by the possible exit of the attacker.

"At Sundowns, there’s a lot of quality [players] as well that can fill up where he left off, there are youngsters that can grow into being players like Lucas," Cupido added.

Sundowns take on Richards Bay at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 18:00.
