‘It is time to win cups, and I totally agree’

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is showing no hesitance in matching their league supremacy in the cups starting with the MTN8, for which they are one step away from reaching the final.

While Sundowns have made the league personal property throughout the PSL era years, they have not done the same in the domestic cup competitions, winning the MTN8 only twice, Carling Knockout thrice and the Nedbank Cup five times.

Their last cup success was in May 2022.

"Obviously, it is important to win cups," says Cardoso.

"Me and the players feel there is energy for this competition, which brings new energy in taking a step forward.

"For the players and me, this cup is important because it is the next competition that we will finish, and we have to look at it that way.

"It is the next one that we will finish not in a long time, so we need to finish it in the best way possible.

"We don’t relate much with the past, but the ambitions that we try and keep as high as much as possible inside the club.

"Considering that we have the next match always in our thoughts as the important one, that is how we face it.

"If we do it the right way, then we will have to play in the final.

"If we don’t do it the right way or go to the limit, then we will not get it right and then we will have to look forward.

"It is time to win cups, and I totally agree.

"I believe that we have conditions to do so even though there will be someone the other side to fight for it," says Cardoso.
