Sundowns lining up 'roadblock' for Stellies star to Chiefs?

Looking to address a problem position, Kaizer Chiefs are understood to be at risk of missing out on one of their major transfer targets to a Betway Premiership rival.

Chiefs have made no secret of their pursuit of Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien.

They reportedly saw two of their bids rejected by the Winelands club before the start of the 2024/25 season.

There now appears to have been a new twist...

Mamelodi Sundowns emerged as a contender for the player's signature sometime last season, although they ended up only signing Jayden Adams.

Fresh information reaching this website is that the Tshwane giants have, in recent weeks, revisited their interest in the Bafana Bafana star, in the process making serious progress.

The side is gearing up for the FIFA Club World Cup and will be given a special window to sign players ahead of the global competition, though it is unclear if they intend to rope in the 28-year-old ahead of the competition or for next season.

What is known is that the Chloorkop-based outfit have struggled to find genuine competition for first-choice left-back Aubrey Modiba.

Terrence Mashego could also be on his way out, having struggled to provide sufficient cover.

There is national U20 captain Asekho Tiwani as an option, but the youngster is seen as more of a long-term replacement for the man nicknamed 'Postman'.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi continue their search for a left-back and are still expected to make efforts at luring Basadien to the Village.

The Soweto giants signed Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam at the start of the season, but both have so far struggled to make the position their own, with Sam failing to make a single competitive appearance.

Happy Mashiane is expected to leave at the end of the season, and a hijacked deal of prime target Basadien will come as a major blow.
