Exits looming at Pirates

With the season coming to a close, the future of several players at Orlando Pirates remains in the air, and multiple departures are to be expected after a season of ups and downs for the club.

Bucs are set to wrap up their campaign with a Betway Premiership clash against Magesi FC at Orlando on Wednesday (19:30), which could present some players with the last opportunity to don the shirt.

Miguel Timm is but one.

The midfielder is reported to be facing the exit with his contract set to expire at the end of June.

He made just three appearances in 2024/25 as he fell lower down the pecking order in a congested midfield that includes Thalente Mbatha, Goodman Mosele, Makhehlene Makhaula, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and most recently Simphiwe Selepe.

Makhaula, despite playing a key role in the heart of the midfield, is also expected to leave, mainly due to age, should a one-year deal not be agreed upon.

At 35, the Soweto giants are moving in the direction of a younger midfield, and it is no surprise Sihle Nduli from Stellenbosch FC is expected to join.

Somewhat of a surprise could be the developments around club captain Innocent Maela, who has reportedly been offered a role within the backroom staff after losing his spot in the starting XI.

He made 11 appearances this term but got a start on only two occasions. Like Happy Jele, the former Thanda Royal Zulu man may feel he has more to give on the field and seek a move elsewhere as opposed to retirement.

Bandile Shandu, now 30, is another player possibly facing the axe.

The wingback has been unfortunate with injuries but is unlikely to nail down a starting position ahead of Mohau Nkota next season. His current deal with the club also expires on 30 June.

Other possible exits include Katlego Otladisa, who spent six months at Sekhukhune United, and Karim Kimvuidi, who has, for the most part, struggled for playing time.
