Mweene role not a threat to Wendell as Sundowns GK coach

Retired goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has officially assumed his role as a goalkeeper coach at reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mweene announced his retirement from the game bringing an end to an illustrious 17-year career in the DStv Premiership since joining Free Stars back in 2005.

'Kapalaya' has also amassed 122 appearances for the Zambian national team with whom he lifted the AFCON tournament.

The 38-year-old lifted an incredible eight league titles alongside a CAF Champions League trophy in a decorated spell with the Brazilians.

The former Chipolopolo goalkeeper also sealed three Nedbank Cup trophies, two Telkom Cup trophies and one MTN8 title. "Mweene has officially joined the technical team," a source within the club tells KickOff.

"He is the now the assistant goalkeeper coach. His position is not a threat to Wendell Robinson, who remains the leading goalkeeper coach at Sundowns." Meanwhile Sundowns unveiled the signing of Thabiso Khutumela from rivals SuperSport United.
