Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi rues missed chances against Free State Stars

Percy Tau's early strike was cancelled out by Siphelele Mthembu as Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday evening.

“You can say it’s two points dropped if you consider that the goalkeeper is the Man of the Match. That sums it up. I believe we should have buried the game in the first half. We [missed] too many opportunities,” Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.

“I was worried when we went into half time [only] 1-0. I knew that when you miss so many chances you’re likely to give your opponents confidence come the second half.

“They had a good second half. First half we buried them unfortunately in this game if you don’t take your chances God works in miraculous ways if didn’t use your chances in the first half chances are the opponents may come back stronger. They did but I still believe it’s a game we should have won.”

The former Golden Arrows coach went on to give insight on striker Jeremy Brockie, who looked frustrated on the pitch after missing some clear-cut chances.

“I think it’s only natural for him to feel that way. At half time, we made him aware that we know what he’s capable of. He’s going to score a lot of goals for us but he must not rush.

"He must not get desperate because he starts to do things that are uncharacteristic of him. He wants to shoot on angles that don’t suit him but we know he has the capacity to help us. Everybody must be patient with him," he added.
