Onyango provides Sundowns future update

Veteran campaigner Denis Onyango has provided an update on his future at Mamelodi Sundowns soon after clinching the 12th league title of his glittering playing career.

Onyango’s initial contract with Sundowns is set to expire at the end of June.

However, the Ugandan goalkeeper has an option to renew for another season.

The former SuperSport United man has made 13 appearances for the side so far this season having won nine league titles with the Chloorkop-based outfit since joining them in 2011 from Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Onyango turned 40 years old last Thursday and is still going strong.

“What do you think? Go for the 13th one,” said the bulky gloveman when asked about his plans for next term.

He is set to sit with club management after the two-legged CAF Champions League final against Pyramids FC to discuss his future.

According to sources at Sundowns, Onyango is earmarked for a different role at the club after his retirement from the game.

“I am still playing. Of course, the club has to speak to me, but I believe I still have the energy to support the boys.

"To be honest, I am still here one more (season). The body will talk to me, but I am still here and that I can speak with confident that I am still at Mamelodi Sundowns for another season,” he vowed.

The man who deputizes for Ronwen Williams is set for his second star in the Champions League if they get past Pyramids, whose stubbornness was on display in the semi-finals against Orlando Pirates.
