Ex-PSL coach: Downs have been consistent in CAFCL but...

A former Premier Soccer League manager has weighed in on the upcoming highly-anticipated CAF Champions League first leg tie between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC.

The Brazilians will play host to the Egyptian outfit at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League final on Saturday, May 24. The return leg will be played in Cairo on June 1.

Masandawana edged past Al Ahly on away goal rule in the semi-finals to reach the final, meanwhile, Pyramids brushed aside South African powerhouse Orlando Pirates to set a date with Downs.

The Betway Premiership champions have been consistently participating in the Champions League for a while now, but have been failing to win the title since their maiden trophy in 2016.

Miguel Cardoso and his soldiers will face off against high-flying Pyramids, whom this will be their first-ever Champions League final.

With the dream of the second star lives on for Sundowns, ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Wedson Nyirenda has expressed his views on how he believes the game will go.

"Speaking from the coach's mouth piece, it is going to be a very excited and explosive game, it is going to be a contest of tactics and the team that will apply themselves accordingly, will take it home," Nyirenda told KickOff.com.

"Sundowns are at a different level in terms of tactics and technical abilities. On the other side, Pyramids has also turned the corner of their game, invested in good players in a run of time, otherwise the best applied team takes it.

"Sundowns have been consistent in the tournament and they have turned the CAF Champions League their second league so they can have it easy to know where to touch and where not to touch," added the Telkom Knockout Cup winning coach.

"But like I said Pyramids have invested so much in recent times. So it must take Sundowns imposing themselves on Pyramids to make to get it."
