Cardoso in wonderland after R20 million in the bag

Having just won 3-0 against Chippa United on Wednesday, Miguel Cardoso has attributed Mamelodi Sundowns' success in this season's Betway Premiership campaign to a key factor within the camp.

In demolishing the Chilli Boys at Buffalo City Stadium, Sundowns clinched their eighth league title in succession.

They are expected to officially be handed the coveted trophy and R20 million cheque after hosting Magesi FC at Loftus on Sunday (17:30).

Furthermore, the Tshwane giants will finish the season on 73 points should they inflict defeat on their next opponents.

“The values we developed in the locker room, the good sense of love, brotherhood made us wonderful in the locker room and (it) has been a wonderful pleasure to lead (the club) in this last month,” noted Cardoso in the post-match press conference.

“When we arrived, it was clear that something needed to change, mostly the energy and nothing to do with the work of the previous coaches that I respect so much.

"We invested a lot in relations, a lot, because in football it's not only how you touch the ball, it's how you connect yourselves and us with the players, the staff, and the management. I think that was the key.

"The obedience and the spirit have been a wonderful experience to be in South Africa, has been a wonderful experience to be at Mamelodi Sundowns, and a wonderful experience to work with these wonderful players”, explained the 52-year-old gaffer.

Sundowns still also have eyes on CAF Champions League honours as they meet Egyptian club Pyramids FC in the first leg of the final in Tshwane on May 24, with the second leg taking place eight days later.
