Wydad Athletic Club are set to bow out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with immense pride, following an extraordinary tribute from a United States district.

The District of Columbia in Washington has paid historic tribute to the Moroccan giants.
The mayor of this federal district has officially declared 8 May as "Wydad Day" in honour of the club’s founding anniversary.

The announcement coincides with Wydad’s participation in the Club World Cup and serves as recognition not only of the club’s rich international legacy, but also its role as one of the leading forces in African football.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Wydad expressed its appreciation.
The club wrote: "On this joyous occasion, Wydad Athletic Club extends its sincere thanks and gratitude to the Mayor of the District of Columbia, Ms Muriel Bowser, for this high honour, which is a mark of appreciation for the club’s history rich with titles and achievements since its founding in 1937, and its leading national role throughout Morocco’s key historical stages...
"This international recognition is a source of pride for everyone connected with the club... including... the respected former Wydad player Hassan Samghouni."
