Every June, South Africans fondly look back on one of the most unforgettable moments in local football history, Siphiwe Tshabalala’s iconic goal during the opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Mexico.

And this year, his wife, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, joined the country in the celebration by sharing a touching message in honour of her husband’s legacy.

Bokang, a former Miss South Africa and passionate supporter of her husband's journey penned a heartfelt note reflecting on his remarkable achievements on and off the pitch.

Her tribute highlights not only the significance of that goal but also the dedication, discipline, and love for the game that defined Tshabalala’s career.

Tshabalala, affectionately known as Ntho Tse Monate, made his name in football history when he scored the opening goal of the first-ever FIFA World Cup hosted on African soil.

While the former Kaizer Chiefs captain boasts several accolades and trophies from his time with the Soweto giants, it is that iconic goal that remains etched in the hearts of football fans around the world.

Montjane-Tshabalala posted a video on her Instagram with the caption: "15 years ago on this day you made history and for almost 14 years I have had the privilege of getting the front row seat of watching you live your life purposefully."

"I am so proud of you as a wife. I am so proud of how you have over the years continued to give 120% of yourself to this sport called football.

"I am so proud of how you continue to use this journey to inspire so many young African boys and girls," added the 2010 Miss South Africa winner.

"I am so proud of how you continue to ensure that you are not the first nor the last and continue to open doors for so many other young people in this sport. You are an absolute inspiration and I love you with all my heart Monna waka (my husband) You are football."
