Chiefs keeper poser, 'hurt' Mothwa option...

With Kaizer Chiefs having goalkeeping questions hanging, a club legend believes time has overtaken a likely deal for Veli Mothwa and the Soweto giants should look elsewhere.

Mothwa's contract with AmaZulu expires at the end of June, with the club so far not showing any intentions of keeping him.

The 34-year-old has seen his form drop in recent times, conceding 13 goals in five league matches and keeping only two Betway Premiership clean sheets in 2024/25.

Joseph 'Banks' Setlhodi, who kept goals for Amakhosi during their golden years, believes the former Chippa United goalkeeper has run his race.

"As for Veli Mothwa for Chiefs, no, not now. Maybe two years ago, yes, he was going to make it," emphasizes Setlhodi.

"His confidence is no more there, and he's been playing for a losing side. Losing your winning mentality is the biggest problem in a footballer.

"Winning mentality is what helps you as a footballer to win games even if you are not at your best. Losing game after game affects your confidence.

"So, in short, I will say Veli Mothwa is hurt. The loss of form has left a huge scar in him, and he's going to take time to recover.

"You look at his age, I don't think he will be able to bounce back anytime soon."
