'They'll be looking at their Instagram followers and DMs'

Head coach Cavin Johnson has detailed the sometimes negative influence that social media has as players are "looking at their Instagram followers and DMs" in educating his side on what it means to represent Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs were on the losing end of Saturday's Soweto derby by a 1-0 scoreline as Evidence Mokgopa scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute at FNB Stadium.

A philosophical Johnson explained the challenges of coaching the modern footballer after being appointed on an interim basis.

"It's about going into Kaizer Chiefs, understanding who Kaizer is, who Kaizer Chiefs are and making sure that the personnel who are in the team know what this brand is about," Johnson said post-match.

"That they also know what Kaizer Chiefs fans are about.

"When you are able to get that across to certain players, it's a hard task to ask for nowadays.

"Because guys [the mentality of players is] when I'm finished, now, you see all of these phones in front of me. They'll be sitting on my desk and looking at how many Instagram followers have left me, and how many people have sent me DMs.

"So really, we need a different type of player that you have to teach them a different way, and maybe I can get that time (to teach them).

"But I know, for sure, that this team will play better football."
