Kappa cruising in lucrative Chiefs kit deal despite on-field form

Kaizer Chiefs and their Italian technical manufacturers Kappa are in brisk business with sales of the club's jersey flying off the shelves since the partnership came into effect on July 1.

Kappa returned to Chiefs as replacement for Nike striking what is arguably the biggest deal on the domestic football scene and matching international trends.

Chiefs had been with Nike since the start of the 2001/02 season taking over from Reebok.

AmaKhosi' deal with Kappa is now standing amongst the flagship deals for the Italian manufacturers.

This website has made extensive research stretching several weeks and established that there will be huge rewards for both parties with the Kombat away kit by far the best seller retailing at R1200 at most stores.

Though no specific figure has been given there has been indications that the revenue generated from the sale of Chiefs' Kappa merchandise already has gone into hundreds of millions and could top the billion rands mark at the end of the season.

However, as is usual with all brands, the counterfeit industry has also gate crashed their way in selling the Chiefs jersey for amounts ranging from R120-R200 in most areas around the Johannesburg CBD visited by this website.

With the certified retailers, the Totalsports website shows that the Chiefs away jersey (R1200) has been the best seller of all fan gear for local clubs followed by the 2023/24 Orlando Pirates home kit (R1200).

In third place is Chiefs' home jersey (R1200) followed by Pirates icon jersey which is selling at a marked down Black Friday price of R600.

Then from there it is the three Sundowns jerseys which retail for R1100 followed by the Pirates away kit.

Studio88 also has the Chiefs away jersey as the best seller on their online store at R1100.

At Crosstrainer, the Chiefs jersey retails for R1200.

The Kaizer Chiefs digital store has stock though the biggest size 4XL is already sold out for the away kit.

Popular sportwear retailer Solly M Sports is out of stock with the away jersey on all sizes while the home strip has been marked down to R800 with limited stock available.

The kids' range (5-14 years) on the home and away kits kit is available at R1000.

Sportsman Warehouse only has limited sizes on the home kit only at R1200 while there is nothing on the away kit.

Kaizer Chiefs and Kappa partnership announcement.

The Kappa outlet stores around Gauteng have already reported busy business and are out of stock for most sizes in the multi colour away strip.

That away jersey has proved popular especially as its launch coincided with the period leading to the rugby World Cup with the Springboks using similar green colours.

Both the home and away jerseys are selling for R1200 at the Kappa stores in Gauteng while a popular sportswear store Rashid Cassim in Fordsburg sells them at R880 as they are offering a 20% discount.

Efforts to get through to Kappa were unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

Chiefs were previously with the Italian manufacturers through their years as a dominant force from 1989 to 1996.

Between those years, Chiefs won 11 titles but will now wait for the Nedbank Cup in May next year or a miraculous shot for the league title for their first piece of silverware.
