Bucs playmaker bags a surprise new gig

Orlando Pirates star Fortune Makaringe has popped up with a surprising new gig, which sees him become one of the faces of a bed manufacturing company. Here's a look.

The story

The former Maritzburg United man remains very marketable as he revealed his latest off-field collaboration with Restonic Beds. The player is far too familiar with working with different types of brands, including his outfitter Nike as well as South African jewelry and watches store Langa Soleil.

His versatility and appeal to various markets seem to have really paid off given that no one could have expected him to partner up with a bed producing company, as soccer players generally work with sportswear, fashion, and energy drink brands.

In the advert, Makaringe can be seen heard discussing the importance of a comfortable bed and how it's beneficial to him as a topflight athlete competing for one of the biggest clubs in the country.

The football side of things

The 29-year-old has featured in five DStv Premiership matches from a possible eight so far, showing that he is in fact part of the new manager's plans.

While this might not seem like a big deal, it is worth mentioning that Pirates have had a rather unusual way of discarding players in recent times, with the exits of stars like Wayde Jooste, Linda Mntambo, Bongani Sam, and Abel Mabaso seeming quite abrupt with any prior indication of a departure.

This has in a way shown that managing to get a consistent run of games may be the only ticket to remaining at the club and somewhat avoiding an unexpected exit.
