A former fan favourite

There was a time when the left-back position in the Bafana Bafana team was guaranteed to Masilela, at a stage where the star seemed to be at the peak of his powers. The Witbank-born man was known to be meticulous in a tackle while he was defensively sound at the back, leaving very little room for the opponent to shine.

The well-travelled fullback spent a large portion of his career abroad, having made the switch to Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa in 2007 before returning to South African shores on a permanent in 2012.

The return to Mzansi

Upon his return to the PSL following a stint in LaLiga, the defender joined Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, where he would go on to make more than 140 appearances for the side.

He arrived at Naturena in 2012 and left in 2018 having won two league titles and an MTN8.

Did you know?

According to Transfermarkt, Masilela has 46 Bafana Bafana caps, which is the most by any South African left-back - further highlighting how the Getafe player was a staple in that role for his country.
