Downs opponents hires sleep expert to boost CWC chances

Mamelodi Sundowns' next opponents are now said to have hired a renowned sleep expert to assist them during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

According to German outlet Bild, Borussia Dortmund have added sleep expert Anna West to their backroom staff.

West, who is also the founder of the consulting firm Sleep2perform, has been brought on board to help improve player recovery during the tournament.

Dortmund are said to have recognised the challenges players might face in the United States, including unfamiliar stresses such as time zone differences, climate changes, and disruptions to their usual game rhythm.

To address these crucial factors, West has reportedly been tasked with coordinating all recovery-related processes, particularly optimising the team’s sleeping patterns.

It is also reported that West was hired on the recommendation of head coach Niko Kovac, as her services are also used by Olympic-level athletes.

Furthermore, Dortmund are reportedly already impressed by West, with managing director Lars Ricken and other members of the club’s management team discussing the possibility of retaining her services beyond the Club World Cup.

Dortmund are set to face Sundowns in their second group game on Saturday at 18:00 South African time.
