Bafana's status four years on under Broos…

Hugo Broos’ tenure at Bafana Bafana will move on as the Belgian leads the squad against their neighbours Mozambique and continues to stand as the longest-serving senior national team coach.

Though he wasn’t on the bench on the day, Broos’ Bafana era started on June 10, 2021, with a 3-2 international friendly win over Uganda at Orlando Stadium.

June 10, 2025, and he is still in charge having restored the pride and dignity of Bafana after taking over a team low in confidence that had failed to even qualify for the AFCON finals.

Under the man born in the small town of Humbeek, Bafana are without defeat as the home team, have moved up the FIFA rankings, and were medal winners at the last AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

"The result will not be so important, but the performance is something that I want to see," Broos says of the friendly against Mozambique at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening (19:30).

"The individual performance and also the performance as a team.

"I was satisfied with what I saw last Friday with some good individual performances and the performance as a team was good.

"So, I want to see that again, against Mozambique, and after that we can do a valuation of the new players and see what we can do in the qualifiers, AFCON and hopefully next year at the World Cup.

"We would like to win the game (against Mozambique), don’t misunderstand me, we have to take into account our rankings, so we will try everything to win the game and let’s hope we can succeed," says Broos.

"I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow and it will be a totally different team compared to the team of last Friday (against Tanzania).

"I want to give playing time to everybody who is with us," he notes.
