Fresh start for Lepasa in crossroads situation

The eighth edition of the CHAN finals, catering only for players plying their trade in their domestic leagues, will be held from August 2-30 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Molefi Ntseki, who is coach of the makeshift Bafana Bafana squad, has been forced by circumstances to include as many as 12 club less players.

The unattached crew includes Keagan Dolly, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo amongst others.

Lepasa is part of those names and returns to the international fold with memories of his last appearance in a Bafana jersey still vivid.

The 28-year-old played in every match at the AFCON finals at the beginning of last year.

In heading to East Africa where Ntseki’s team will play all their matches in Group C in Kampala, Lepasa will take aim at minutes whichever way they come.

Bafana play Algeria on August 8 then Guinea three days later while the last two group matches will be against Niger on August 15 before the date against Uganda in front of their home fans on August 18.

All matches will be played at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

Being a striker Lepasa already has admirers for his services but has to make a decision that allows him to play regular football.

He spoke at length about his desire to play this week.

"I did not play the entire season due to an injury, and this is the first time this has happened in my career.

"With the new season about to start, one thing that would mean a lot to me would be seeing myself back on the field, wearing a football jersey, and being able to get the first minutes of the season," Lepasa told journalists.
