Helsingborg impatient on lack of May Mahlangu bids

Mahlangu has been tipped to leave Sweden this transfer window, but with just under a week remaining that is looking ever more unlikely.

Despite reported interest from Turkey, France and the Netherlands, so far no club has taken a plunge on the attacking midfielder, who is valued at around 1.5-million Euros (R18-million).

This despite someone very close to the player himself telling snl24.com/kickoff on January 7 that French club Valenciennes had already submitted a bid.

“If there is genuine interest then we need a bid directly from a club,” Helsingborg sports director Jesper Jansson says. “We must have something concrete to discuss and not just keep talking about a bid through a bunch of people.”

Any move is complicated by the fact that Mahlangu is in camp with Bafana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, making him unavailable for a medical, unless a club flies their doctors out to Mzansi.

This could change if Bafana are knockout out of the competition on Sunday, though their victory over Angola means they are in the pound seats for a place in the quarterfinals.

Mahlangu has a contract with Helsingborg up until the end of 2013, when he would then leave for free. He would also be able to move in the next transfer window in July/August, but for considerably less.

Turkish side Genclerbirligi and Valenciennes have made contact over Mahlangu’s availability for a move, while reports have also linked Dutch outfit Heerenveen.
