Serie A match report Bologna v Juventus 24 February 2019

Paulo Dybala came off the bench to the net the winning goal as Juventus edged past Bologna on Sunday afternoon.

Bianconeri made four changes from the defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, as goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, Paulo Dybala, Miralem Pjanic and Giorgio Chiellini dropped to the bench, making way for Mattia Perin, Daniele Rugani, Federico Bernardeschi and Joao Cancelo.

Chances were hard to come by in the early stages, but Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski did well to keep out Cristiano Ronaldo's header at the back post on 26 minutes.

Five minutes later, Bernardeschi came close to breaking the deadlock for Massimiliano Allegri’s charges after going one-on-one with Skorupski inside the box, but he chipped his effort over the crossbar.

Bologna were compact at the back in the latter stages of the half, although they failed to offer much going forward.

Bianconeri were kept back in their own half in the early stages of the second stanza as the hosts were threatening to break the deadlock, and Allegri decided to throw on another attacker as Paulo Dybala replaced Alex Sandro.

Dybala made an immediate impact as he found the breakthrough for the Old Lady in the 66th minute with a low strike into the bottom corner after Bologna failed to clear their lines following a cross from Blaise Matuidi, 0-1.

Juventus were inviting pressure from the hosts in the closing stages by sitting deep in their own half but they managed to hold their ground to see off a late surge from Bologna to clinch the three points.

Sampdoria 1-0 Cagliari
Chievo 0-0 Genoa
