'They should let Ranga go because...'

A former Kaizer Chiefs striker has given the Soweto giants advice on Ranga Chivaviro with the big hitman struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Since joining Chiefs at the beginning of last season, Chivaviro has struggled to replicate the form that led to the club bringing him over from Marumo Gallants.

In his 43 matches in the famous Gold and Black colours, he has scored only eight goals with no assists recorded.

This is in contrast to 2022/23 at Gallants, where he netted 10 in 20 appearances.

"Though he is a good striker, I'm concerned about his movements. He doesn't create enough space for his teammates to find him," says Daniel Matsau, in a conversation with KickOff.com.

"That's why they struggle to find him, which affects his ability to score goals. His movements around the box are not good.

"He often hides from the ball, and most of the time, he positions himself at the far post or stands at the penalty spot. Those positions are for overlapping teammates and oncoming attacking midfielders.

"As a result, he is going to struggle to score goals," says the man nicknamed 'Massaro' in a playing career that also took him to the likes of Hellenic, Bloemfontein Celtic, and SuperSport United.

Matsau adds that a striker should force defenders into mistakes by moving towards the first pole instead of the last pole.

"A striker should always be the first one to react to second balls.

"For me, I think they should let Ranga go because if Chiefs manage to find a new striker, especially now with Tashreeq Morris in the mix, I don't think Ranga will play again.

"Every time Morris plays, there is a lot of movement up front, and there's no way they will play Ranga while keeping a fit Morris on the bench. Morris does things that Chivaviro can't," adds the ex-marksman.
