Ex-Chiefs coach shortlisted in Kenya

A former Kaizer Chiefs coach has been shortlisted for the vacant and highly contested Gor Mahia head coach position, KickOff has learnt.

Gor Mahia publicly advertised the head coach position, with last week being the deadline for submissions of applications, after parting ways with Zedekiah Otieno.

In fact, in a shock sweeping changes, the Kenyan giants have made major structural changes, releasing the entire technical team, including key personnel in the executive.

The head coach vacancy has received huge interest, with 148 applications making it past the screening process, according to Citizen Digital.

This publication has been reliably informed that Cavin Johnson has been shortlisted for the head coach post, with the club keen to finalize the issue of the new technical team promptly, before pre-season begins.

Indications are that Johnson is currently negotiating with the record Kenyan Premier League champions as one of the top two coaches the club will choose from.

The Green Army will strongly consider affordability in ultimately settling for a new man in charge, a decision which is expected imminently.

KickOff.com also has also gathered that Johnson has also been shortlisted by Siwelele FC, who are searching for a coach.

SuperSport United, the club whose top-flight status they have bought, parted company with Gavin Hunt towards the end of last season, with Andre Arendse filling in for the remainder of the campaign.

Johnson initially made the shortlist last season, after the side severed ties with Hunt, with a view of exploring that option in the new season, should they survive relegation.

With Stan Matthews seemingly retaining his position as CEO after Siwelele, it is understood his list of candidates has not changed, and does include Johnson.
The likes of Lehlohonolo Seema have been rumoured to be in discussions with the club too.

Rulani Mokwena was also linked with Siwelele before being appointed at MC Alger.
