Zwane addresses Dove's costly mistake

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has addressed the costly defensive error by defender Edmilson Dove that led his side conceding and eventually settling for a draw against relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants.

The Glamour Boys suffered a dent in their hopes for a second-placed finish when they failed to beat Gallants at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The match started on a high for Chiefs when striker Ashley Du Preez opened the scoring just six minutes into the clash.

Despite a plethora of goal scoring opportunities, Chiefs could not find a second and were made to pay in the second half when centre-back Edmilson Dove appeared to have tripped while shielding the ball in his own box, allowing Gallants' striker Ranga Chivaviro to capitalise.

Speaking to journalists after the Gallants' game, Zwane admitted that the trend is a cause for concern.

"It [Dove's error] does worry us as a technical team because if you look at how we concede goals, you look at the goal we conceded this week, you look at the goals we've conceded this season – actually I would say 70%, if not 75 or 80% of the goals we conceded this season were like this," Zwane said.

"20% [of the goals conceded] I would give it to the opposition and say yes, they unlocked us, they were superior in certain areas of the field, they created opportunities and they punished us, but when you look at this [Dove's error], we've been talking about it since the start of the season, that we've been conceding silly goals, we make mistakes that are very very costly. We've conceded a lot of goals unnecessarily.

"So, as a coach, what do you do? do you give up your players? I can't give up on them, I'm going to have to keep working on this, change their mindset, change the mentality and make sure that we keep moving and get it right."
