Mauro Icardi had a chance to snatch the lead for the Nerazzurri in the 17th minute after he was sent through on the left side of the box, but his left-footed strike could not hit the target.

Rafinha came close to sending Ernesto Valverde’s charges ahead in the 27th minute after finding space in the of the box but his low shot was saved by Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

Rafinha could not be denied five minutes later as he gave Barça the lead with a low left-footed strike past Handanovic after he was played through by Luis Suarez inside the box, 1-0.

Matias Vecino fancied his chances for the visitors eight minutes before the break with a stinging half-volley from outside the box that was threatening but looped over the bar.

Matteo Politano almost got the equaliser for Inter five minutes after the break with a curling strike from the edge of the box that was parried away by Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Suarez almost doubled the lead for the Catalans two minutes before the hour-mark, bursting his way into the box forcing Handanovic into a good save.

Philippe Coutinho nearly made it 2-0 for the hosts 20 minutes before time with strike from the side yard box that came off top frame of the crossbar following a quick counter-attack.

Barça’s Jordi Alba put the daylight between them and Inter, making it 2-0 seven minutes before time with a low strike into the bottom corner after forcing his way on the left side of the box.

Suarez had a wonderful opportunity to make it 3-0 for the hosts in the last minute of regulation of time after going through on the right side of the box but his low strike was saved by Handanovic, but Barça were already home and dry.
