'Rashford was on a mission to get drunk'

With Manchester United having released a statement on the matter, shock details of Marcus Rashford's "12-hour booze bender" have now reportedly been revealed.

The forward missed his side's 4-2 victory over Newport County in the FA Cup on Sunday, with manager Erik ten Hag revealing after the game that it was an internal matter after the England international reported ill for training on Friday.

This, however, came after he was spotted out partying at a nightclub in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the night before.

Late on Monday night, the club released statement confirming that the situation had been sorted out.

"Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed," the statement read, per GOAL.

The player was spotted at Carrington with his agent on Monday morning for showdown talks with Ten Hag, and it is claimed the 26-year-old has been fined £650 000 (R15.5 million), which is estimated to be equivalent to two weeks' wages for him, for his actions.

The Sun reports that prior to calling in sick, Rashford was on a two-day trip to Belfast to visit a friend.

He is believed to have spent the entirety of his trip partying before getting on a private jet back to Manchester during the early hours of Friday morning.

It has further claimed that 30-year-old Belfast waitress Sarah Adair accompanied Rashford on his exploits. He is said to have invited her along after she served the player lunch on Thursday afternoon, and asked her if there were any nightclubs that would stay open beyond 3am if he paid them cash to do so.

The waitress and Rashford's entourage reportedly went to dinner at a restaurant, where he booked out the top floor so he could play his favourite music. She also stated that he took his own bottle of tequila there, and told her "he had been drinking all day" before they then moved on to a nightclub.

According to Adair, it was a "weird" night out as she had to tuck him into bed fully dressed still after he had passed out.

She added that, despite a friend reminding him that he had training the next day, "he was on a mission to get drunk".

"I'm not surprised he missed training the next day given how late he got to bed and how much he'd had to drink. He must've known he wasn't going to be in any fit state to play football," the waitress said, per The Sun.

"It's not like it wasn't planned from the start. I don't know how he didn't realise he would be caught out."
