There have been several players who had very short stints at Orlando Pirates, and you could be forgiven for struggling to remember a certain Congolese star who lasted just over six months at the club. Here's a look!
The Story
Pirates have enjoyed considerable success with foreign players over the years, with the likes of Joseph Kamwendo and Isaac Chansa among several standout imports at the Soweto giants.

Unfortunately, not all signings have made a lasting impression at the Buccaneers.
Players such as Kwame Peprah and Souaibou Marou are more recent examples of foreign recruits who failed to make their mark at the club.
Jean-Marc Makusu
In November 2020, DR Congolese forward Jean-Marc Makusu joined Pirates on loan from AS Vita Club.
His loan deal was not made permanent at the end of the 2020/21 season, after he managed to score just one goal in eight appearances for Ezimnyama Ngenkani, according to Transfermarkt.
Makusu now plies his trade back in his home country with MK Etanchéité, a club he joined in August 2024, competing in DR Congo’s top flight.
He has also had a respectable international career, scoring seven goals in 14 caps and featuring for his country in the most recent qualifiers for the 2024 African Nations Championship.
Tell us, what’s your memory of Jean-Marc Makusu?
