Eto'o's son in a race for Golden Boot

Etienne Eto'o, son of legendary striker Samuel Eto'o, is now firmly in the race for a Golden Boot award in Europe.

Samuel Eto'o is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated African footballers of all time, having been named the continent’s best player a joint-record four times.

Only Ivorian icon Yaya Touré has matched this achievement.

Now, it seems Etienne is following in his father’s prolific footsteps, showing a similar knack for scoring goals.

This season, the 22-year-old has found the back of the net 24 times for Rayo Vallecano B, a side competing in Spain’s reserve league system.

Only one player in the division has scored more than him — Iván Villoslada Molina of Náxara CD, with 27 goals.

Back in March, the young Eto'o expressed his ambition to follow in his father's footsteps by representing the Cameroon national team, despite holding dual citizenship with Spain.

According to Africa Top Sports, Eto'o said: "I was born in Mallorca. I am Cameroonian and I feel Cameroonian but also very Spanish.

"My father played for Cameroon, and one of my challenges is to be able to win something with Cameroon and tell myself and people that I was able to do it."
