Quique Setien: New FC Barcelona head coach expressed disbelief in managing LaLiga giants

New FC Barcelona head coach Quique Setien has expressed his disbelief that went from "walking with cows" to managing the best players in the world.

Setien, 61, was without a job after leaving Real Betis at the end of last season but has since been called upon to replace Ernesto Valverde, who was sacked on Tuesday morning.

The Spaniard who was linked with the Barcelona job after leading Real Betis to their highest LaLiga finish in a decade and the UEFA Europa League admits his latest task is like a dream come true.

"I want to thank this institution for giving me the chance," he said at his unveiling, as per the club's website.

"Not even in my wildest dreams could I have imagined this. I have to thank the club. I'm excited about this challenge and this project."

"Yesterday, I was walking around my home town with cows around me and now I'm here at Barcelona managing the best players in the world."

In Valverde's two seasons, the Blaugrana won two league titles and upon his sacking, they lead the table over Real Madrid by goal-difference, which Sitien duly paid homage to.

"I thank Ernesto Valverde for leaving me with a side that is top of the league," he said. "My objective is to win everything! Everything you can win, this club has no other path to follow.

"Year after year, to win as many trophies as possible. I think the best way to victory is by playing good football. It doesn't always happen but it's not just about one day, it's about keeping it going."

Setien's first challenge as Barca head coach is a league outing against 10th placed Granada at Camp Nou on Sunday evening 22h00 (GMT+2).
