'SA teams thought I was finished'

A former Magesi FC defender has taken a jab at Premier Soccer League teams following his recent move to an Asian club.

Limbikani Mzava, a 31-year-old Malawian centre-back has signed with Malaysian side Penang FC this week, marking a new chapter in his career after leaving SA.

Mzava, a seasoned defender, joined Dikwena Tsa Meetse in July 2024 and played a crucial role during his six-month stint.

He helped the Limpopo-based side clinch their first-ever top-flight trophy by defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Cup final in November last year.

Throughout his time in Mzansi, Mzava also featured for KwaZulu Natal outfits AmaZulu FC and Golden Arrows, as well as Bloemfontein Celtic, Cape Town City, and Highlands Park.

Just days after being unveiled by Penang, Mzava made stinging remarks about South African teams, criticising them of looking down on him.

"I played for six months for Magesi and after my release, some teams thought I was done and finished," Mzava told Pan-Africa Football.

The defender also confirmed that a team from Limpopo had shown interest in signing him, but the offer they made was financially unfair.

"I had an opportunity to join a PSL club in Venda, but what they offered me was way too low," he added.

"It was as good as hanging up my boots and exploring other ventures outside football."
