Money matters for Castillo post Chiefs

Edson Castillo has financial matters to consider in deciding his next employer after the end of his time at Kaizer Chiefs.

Castillo spent two years at Chiefs after becoming only the third Venezuelan to play for Chiefs after Jose Torrealba and Gustavo Paez.

Next up for the 31-year-old is making the correct decision about where to play next in career that has already taken him from Venezuela to Azerbaijan, Mexico, and South Africa.

Along the way Castillo has won caps at all levels of international football for Venezuela.

That is why he is keen to maintain a package of preference similar to what he was on at Chiefs when he signs his next contract despite what happened last season.

Castillo fractured his fibula in October last year during a league match against SuperSport United and after his return in March only played 64 minutes spread over four appearances.

This meant his second season at Chiefs didn’t progress from his first.

Last season ended with nine appearances with no goals while his first came up to 32 matches played and five goals.

This website has been informed that the standing options in Venezuela will not meet his financial expectations though he will be visible to the national team selectors.

The clubs in Venezuela will not improve what he was on at Chiefs but rather offer half.

He is comfortable with what he has made while at Chiefs along with settlement coming his way.

Clubs in Venezuela are currently playing in the Torneo Clausura, the second and last tournament of the 2025 season.

So, it will now be a financial decision to make for Castillo in deciding where to go next.

His former club Caracas still has a standing offer for him to return.
