Downs to come up against Fluminense striker they were offered

The start of the 2025 World Cup will bring reminders to Mamelodi Sundowns about Argentine hitman German Cano.

Cano was offered to Sundowns almost six years ago by the aggressive Latin America network just as he got ready to leave Colombian club Independiente Medelin.

It would have been a massive catch for the champions with the player approaching his 32nd birthday at the time.

The transfer would have been in the same bracket for what they have now spent in bringing in fellow South Americans Marcelo Allende, Arthur Sales, and Matias Esquivel.

His earnings would have been within reach for the Chloorkop club, though making him the highest-paid at the club.

Sundowns had a look at his profile but showed no interest and appeared to be turned off by his age and that he had been around so much in his career from Argentina to Paraguay, Mexico, and Colombia.

Since then, Cano has been to Vasco da Gama, where he scored 24 in his first season, then 19 in his second, before moving on to Fluminense, who became the ninth club that he has played in his senior career.

With the Rio de Janeiro club, he has already smashed 105 goals in 196 games, proving just how prolific he remains.
