Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup with a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.
The Bavarians made two changes from the eleven against Flamengo in Jamal Musiala and Aleksandar Pavlovic who replaced Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry, while PSG showed up unchanged from the win over Inter Miami.
The Bundesliga giants pressed high up the pitch and stole possession relatively easily earlier on against the French giants who sat deep and played on the break.
Bayern were nearly caught inside the 20th minute when Achraf Hakimi raced down the right and delivered a cutback which Khvicha Kvaratskhelia arrowed off the side-netting.
However, the Bavarians were required to make a substitution ten minutes apart as Josip Stanisic struggled to carry on with Sacha Boey introduced.
Flying winger Michael Olise nearly cut open the French minutes later after darting in from the right and curled off the glove of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The half ended on a sombre note for the German heavyweights who had Musiala stretchered due to an horrific ankle injury and introduced Gnabry.
Luis Enrique’s men came close to make the breakthrough when Bradley Barcola came in wide of the area and curled towards the top-corner, but Manuel Neuer answered smartly.
Moment of madness from Neuer nearly led to the opener as he lost control of possession in his own half and allowed Ousmane Dembele a sight at goal, but the winger went wide.
The Ligue 1 giants were ahead ten minutes from time when Joao Neves grab possession from a turnover and set-up Desire Doue to cut inside for a low finish in the bottom-corner.
PSG ended the match with ten men in the last three minutes after Willian Pacho earned a red-card for a high challenge on substitute Goretzka.
The lead looked to have gone away when Harry Kane came in to the area to head a teasing cross in off the inside post, but the offside flag once more rescued the French.
More drama unfolded in stoppage time as PSG received another dismissal when Lucas Hernandez saw red for an unsavoury challenge too.
This didn’t worry Enrique’s men who bagged a second at the death through a first-time finish from the edge of the area by Dembele.
