Report: Manchester United sponsor to help Red Devils re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo

After scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances, and winning no fewer than nine major honours with United, Ronaldo departed as a club legend in 2009 to join Real Madrid in a then-world record transfer.

He spent nearly a decade at Los Blancos, where he added an incredible 450 goals in just 438 games to his record, before joining current club Juventus in 2018, and he could now be on the move again.

According to Portuguese publication Auto Esporte, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could be offered the opportunity to make a sensational return to Old Trafford after one of the club's primary sponsors, Chevrolet, reportedly offered to contribute towards the costs of re-signing him.

The motor vehicle manufacturer's deal with the Red Devils is said to be worth €54.5 million (R1 billion), and the company is reportedly looking to expand its commercial footprint even further by securing the high-profile signature of Ronaldo for the club.

Chevrolet are said to have made the proposal to United after monitoring the market gains enjoyed by the company's competitors Jeep, who are Juventus' shirt sponsors, following the Portugal superstar's arrival in Turin.

Since Ronaldo joined Juve in 2018, Jeep have reportedly enjoyed record-breaking sales in each of his years with the reigning Serie A champions, while the club itself enjoyed a 30% jump in share value in the immediate aftermath of his arrival.

The Sporting Lisbon academy product still has 18 months remaining on his contract with Juve, but has been linked with an early exit in recent times, with former club Real and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain also said to be among those courting his signature.
